If you read my blog, you will know I hate pollution, and the needless use of chemicals and plastics just to save money at the cost of our health and the planets, well......... I love music, I would never work on the beach without it, for me it's essential And I needed new earphones, so what's it to be? Injection molded throw away badly engineered crap....... I don't think so!
I buy very good kit and replace it rarely because it lasts, so I chose a great company and ignored the price, it's immaterial or should be.
I just received my audioquest night owl headphones wait for it........... made from super heated wood, the protein from egg shells and other environmentally neutral raw materials, they don't even use plastic in their speakers because it's bad for the environment.
Well they are the most expensive headphones I have ever owned but beat everything else I have ever used. The sound quality is mind blowing!
if a company has the dedication to manufacture a product as ethically as possible and spends a fortune doing it because it's the right thing to do, I'll support them, every way I can!
Thanks audioquest for your dedication to your products your market and our planet.
Your officially the driftwood shacks audio supplier!
We as intelligent biengs have our future to be, that is we get to choose, beyond ambition, beyond greed, beyond tradition, how do you want to live, what's important to you, to your being, a short time on this earth has been given, so do you run with the trends, or blaze your own trail?
Tread lightly, use no one, love everything and die, now or in 100 years but be true to you.
im never sure if I adapted to this life or if it was always within me. Patiently sitting through the exelent British education and the suit and tie jobs, all the while waiting for an excuse to drop it all, to shed the pretence like a dry skin, to wriggle free of all the obligation and run wild!
All the sunsets I missed, that glorious blue sky stretching above an ocean, any ocean, the world trembling with excitement beneath my feet, just waiting for me to turn and run, run anywhere, with nothing to help me but my resourcefulness and my own two hands.
Sometimes we find things we never knew we were missing, and rid ourselves of things we thought we wanted, such is the great adventure of life!
I find myself wondering if we preside over a civilisation in ascendancy any more, for now the losses outweigh the gains, we plunder our resources by borrowing from the future, there will be no oil, there will be no plastic our way of life will change completely and our grandchildren will ask why did you use it all, what gave you the right to consume all the things of the world and bequeath us nothing, all the while quadrupleing the population so ther would be even less? You people they will say as they spit on us, you people who killed a world, the cursed generation, the damned ones, the children who burned it all. Such is our time, such is our curse, such is our legacy.
. there is an uncertainty to this life, that nowadays we have become insulated from. Trains depart on time, mostly, roads aren't blocked or impassable, the world ticks around you, in perfect ordered time. You can regulate your life or the world can regulate you.
But step away from your saleried job, your 28 days statutory holiday, your daily commute and your comfort zone, and chaos can rein. It's all to easy to alow these modern certainties to take over, and look bemused at me and wonder how i fell through the gaps in your ordered society, but take a step to one side, alow your avatar to continue your life and try to live day by day, every day earning what you need to survive, just from what you can find, this is the hunter gatherer let loose in the modern world, this is the driftwood collector making a living from the detritus of the world, this is me, and this is my story.
How many see a planet struggling to provide what mankind asks of it, even in the wild places, we are asking for more than we should, that is what my business is about, I can't mine more driftwood, I can't take more than is given, and I have to make my work fit my supply, and of course it's all recycling, up cycling buzz words everyone hears but few truly think about. I make things from what already exists, I fell no trees, refine no ore, import no materials. And I try, in my way, to keep the wild places, wild. Here are some photos of wild places I have been in the last month,
with little bites of life you never know when life will bite you back, because life is unpredictable, so grab your chances where you can, stroll in a sunset, share some time, for life is for living.
it can be a long lonely road, but we chose our companions, I've chosen mine well. On the days the wind blows and the seas rage and it's all you can do to hang on, they'll be the ones with a hand outstretched. In the dark of night when the nightmares come and the dawn seams a lifetime away, they'll be there, with a light to guide your way. When your lost in the woods, and all ways seam the same they will be there to guide you home. Life is a journey and through the mountains and deserts I've never walked alone...... I've chosen my friends.............well.
If every home was a planet, if every house was a world, would we care for it, as if it were a small delicate thing?
life is short, grab a friend, grab a kit bag, find somewhere you have never gone, and go there. Even just for a day, this is my blog, little bites of life
this is dawn, just as the world starts waking up, I'm on the beach finding driftwood, just me and my dog, and a whole world to play in!
its ten miles to margate, may get there for lunch if I rush!
this is my blue sky thinking.
just because it's the seaside does not mean it's all natural!
This whole tree washed in on the recent storm surge, its beaten and scared but I'll make it pretty again, with a little help, it can live again, grace a house or a garden, attend a wedding all dressed in flowers, it's time isn't over, it's just begun.
